Fw: IFLA Science &Technology Section Chair Elected

Dear Colleagues,
I am happy to see that Dr. Deva B Eswara Reddy is elected as the Chair of IFLA S&T Libraries Standing Committee during this year's IFLA World Conference in Puerto Rico (USA). I had a chance to see him elected and chairing the meeting during the IFLA conference. He has been active in this Section and also founded the IFLA Agriculture SIG few years ago.
Probably he may be the first Indian to be elected as a Chair for any IFLA Sections. It also happened that he was elected on August 14th, close to Dr. SR Ranganathan's birthday and several "Librarians day" celebrations in India are being held in the week. He was a student of Dr. SR Ranganathan and Dr. A Neelameghan at DRTC, Bangalore in early in early sixties.
He was University Librarian of Andhra Pradesh Agricultral University, before moving to Texas A&M University in the USA. More about him at http://library.tamu.edu/directory/devaereddy

The Road to Academic ExcellenceThe Making of World-Class Research Universities Examines the recent experience of 11 universities in 9 countries on 4 continents that have grappled with the challenges of building successful research institutions under difficult circumstances, and synthesizes the lessons learned. This book will be essential reading for governments, tertiary education leaders, employers, and citizens, considering reforms and innovations to improve their country's position in the global scene. The case studies presented in this book suggest that a faster and more effective approach to achieve world-class university status is to establish a new institution. (and forget the old ones?).
