Dear Moderator, Please circulate this information to LIS Professionals. *Indian Statistical Institute * * Documentation Research and Training Centre * * Colloquium (2) – 2012-14 * Information Seeking Behaviour in Electronic Environment : Issues and Trends * Abstract * Information is integral for the progress, welfare and development of any community. Humans have been making use of information since the onset of humanity. Studies reveal that with growth in technology, various channels for information communication evolved. For an information scientist it is essential to consider and review the changes that took place in areas like “information need”, “information seeking” and “information behaviour”. Investigations show that certain variations in these areas necessitated subtle alterations in different approaches followed by users of information; for its retrieval. Research regarding behaviour patterns of users became important by the day. With the advent of Internet, information and its availability became multidimensional. The current study aims to discuss what is information seeking and how is it related to information behaviour. Though the scope of the idea is quite large, discussions mainly emphasize on Information Seeking Behaviour in Electronic Environment, as traditional print-on-paper is no longer the only source of information. Analysis of behaviour patterns which are observed in information seeking is crucial since it serves as an important parameter for studies in human behaviour. * * TOPICS SPEAKERS * * 1.
