Dear Madam,
Selection may be based on the purpose of the digital library you are going to set up. Whether it will be used to support e learning or will work as institutional repository (where published/ unpublished material by faculty/students can be archived). Any way any digital library software will definitely serve the purpose of distributing digital documents over a network.
Some popularly known Digital Library/ Repository Software are listed at http://www.infolibrarian.com/soft.htm
Digital library resources can be found at

Hope this info works for you.

Hi Veena, Some of the criteria to choose your software could be: 1. Your collection: Digitized material from your library collection (GSDL), Theses and Dissertaions (DSpace), published papers(DSpace, EPrints), teaching material, exam papers etc. 2. Who creates your collection, over what period and what level of interaction you want: Is it a one-time created collection by the library staff (GSDL) or does the faculty, students who create it be allowed to submit it to the DL? (DSpace or EPrints) 3. Standards with which you want the content accessible: For example OAI-PMH and Z39.50? Also consider metadata standards eg. for ETDs. 4. Think also about your hardware capacities and software skills - because a DL would need some amount of maintenence on the long run. Would you train a library staff or tie up with an external expert? You may also find it helpful to go through the Information Management Resource Kit (IMARK) module on 'Digitization and Digital Libraries' available at this site: http://www.imarkgroup.org/moduledescrE_en.asp Though it focuses on the process of digitization and then building a digital library, it has a practial approach on how to build a DL including selecting the collection, determining cost, training personnel, hardware and software selction, convincing the managment etc. You can even request a free CD from their site. Note: This Module was co-ordinated by Late Dr. T.B. Rajashekar with contributions from international experts including Dr. Shalini Urs. A number of people from NCSI, present and former, contributed to its content (though their names do not figure on the list of contributors)- Francis Jayakanth, Venkatalakshmi, Shivaram Gowda and myself. Correct me if I have left out anyone! with regards, Suvarsha *********************************************************************** Suvarsha Walters, Project Assistant, National Centre for Science Information Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore - 560 012 INDIA Ph (Off): 080-23600271 / 22932511 Ph (Mobile): 98458 33694 E-mail: suvarsha_w@yahoo.com suvarsha@ncsi.iisc.ernet.in ************************************************************************ On Thu, 30 Mar 2006, veena bhat wrote:
