Re: [LIS-Forum] ILA elections request to all members from Dr. Manjunath, TAPMI, Manipal
Dear professional colleagues, Before Individual campaigns, I feel it is the moral responsibility of ILA to inform its members about elections with list of candidates. Though I am a life member, I have not received any communication or ballot paper from ILA. Same status may be with many members. Even if a member is willing to vote, how can he do it without ballot paper?. My request to all candidates who are contesting for ILA elections…. Please make ILA as an organization to start communicating with its members about elections. Then canvassing from candidates or their supporters makes some sense. I trust members get a copy of ILA bulletin. Of late, I am not getting it though my address has not changed. I don’t know whether it is publishing or not. My effort to make ILA as very strong body like AMA, AOM, INFORMS etc.. in all directions to fight for profession, status, justice, high quality publications, financing research projects in LIS etc. for example, Journal of marketing, Academy of management review/journal, Management science etc are No.1. core journals from these associations. My request to all candidates independent of election result: 1. Make ILA a professionally and politically very strong body to fight for profession. 2. Publish high quality journals for all type of libraries. The papers should go through rigourous review and plagiarism checks. 3. Work as nodal/central body for IT/services requests in libraries. 4. Organize in-depth High-quality purpose –oriented training workshops on library functions. ( not just a gathering, should be result-oriented) 5. Nodal counselling/advisory centre for library related problems. 6. It should work as repository of Govt circulars/notifications/orders to help library professional who need such document support for his/her career progress or promotion. From decades, I am requesting and sending repeat mails to make ILA a strong body for library profession. Unlike other library associations, ILA includes all type of libraries. Again, please make ILA a very strong body( whoever get elected) to fight and bring justice for our profession. We all Library professionals are same (teaching or practicing) and let us be united. The Indian Library Association was established nine decades back with a vision of furtherance of library movement in India, promotion of training of librarians and improvement of status of librarians. Over the years nine more objectives were added to the vision and mission statement of the ILA. Since inception the Association provided a wide variety of services and programs to its members and also others, who seek technical support or advice. Due to the selfless service rendered by 28 Presidents and their teams, the Association has achieved many milestones. As a philosopher puts it, it is not required to put blame on others for not doing everything perfect. The teams have achieved what best could be possible during their tenure within the limitations. To continue the ideologies and works left behind by the past teams, we have formed a team comprising of Librarians, LIS teachers with a mix of young and old blood. PRESIDENT PROF. B. D. Dear Members, This has reference to the posting made by Dr. Manjunath, TAPMI, Manipal. During the recent past, there have been several postings on the lis-forum campaigning for specific candidates/groups contenting the forthcoming ILA election. As the moderator of the forum, I have intentionally NOT been approving such postings for circulation because they do not come under the purview of the lis-forum objectives. I, therefore, appeal to all the members to refrain from posing such messages on the lis-forum. Coming back to Dr. Manjunath's posting, it is oblivious that his posting was more of an advisory in nature to the next batch of ILA office-bearers. However, what went unnoticed to me while approving the message was the trail mail, which was certainly a campaign mail. Moreover, Dr. Manjunath had Cc'ed his posting to more than 450+ email ids. Inclusion of such large number of IDs in the Cc field should never be done. It unnecessarily increases the size of the mail and is also an irritant to the mail recipients. As the moderator, I should have certainly not approved Dr. Manjunath's posting for both the reasons stated above, but somehow it escaped my attention. My apologies for the same. Members should be aware that postings meant for lis-forum should be sent exclusively to the lis-forum 'To' address. It should NOT be clubbed with othet Email IDs, either in the 'To' address or in the 'Cc" field.
