The aim is to provide an efficient and speedy access to information, reduced cost and improved control and management of library operations. In this colloquium, we will discuss the basics of library housekeeping operations, various modules and the need of automatizing the library operations. We will discuss some of the popular open source (e.g., Koha, NewGenLib, Evergreen and openBiblio) and commercial (e.g., SOUL, Voyager, Libsys, Virtua) software tools along with their comparative analysis. We will also discuss the changing dimensions of library automation and the challenges involved in implementing the automation systems.
