Dear Professional Colleagues The preparations for the proposed two days national seminar on *"The Digital shift: Making libraries relevant for education and research" on 6-7 March 2014 *in the Department of Library and Information Science, Karnataka State Women's University, Bijapur is in full swing. LIS professionals including interested stakeholders from other disciplines as well are showing good response. Last date for submission of full papers with registration fee is 15thFebruary 2014 is fast approaching and I request all the professionals to submit the full papers as per the stipulated time on the following themes and sub-themes of the seminar: *MAIN THEME:* "The Digital shift: Making libraries relevant for education and research" *SUB THEMES* Sub-themes includes but not limited to the following: Ø Breaking barriers to literacy Ø Empowering the researchers Ø Promoting the Scholarly communication Ø Copyright update Ø Collection development strategies Ø Re-inventing the library housekeeping activities and services Ø Management of e-resources Ø Developing DL's, IR's and CMS's Ø Digital Media Ø Library space, finance and human resource management Ø Redefining the management of library and information centers Ø Redefining the ICT applications for libraries Ø Redefining LIS education Ø Best practices in libraries and new initiatives *REGISTRATION FEE* Individual: Rs. 1000.00 Research Scholars and Retired Professionals: Rs. 750 Students: Rs. 300.00 (Kit without conference proceedings) Accompanying family member: Rs. 500.00 (Kit without conference proceedings) *IMPORTANT DATES *Acceptance of full paper for presentation: 20.2.2014 Last date for Registration: 27.2.2014 Spot Registration: Available on prior intimation It is also being planned to bring out the Proceedings of Seminar in the book form with ISBN Number to be released on the Inaugural day of the seminar by including select papers and in the form of e-book again with ISBN by including all the papers accepted for presentation to be published through the Prasaranga of the University. We are planning to accommodate the delegates at nearby guest-houses or hotels or hostels on either no charges or some nominal charges (to be borne by the delegates). In case delegates require a comfort stay there are good number of budget hotels and also hotels of international standards at Bijapur. Accommodation may be arranged if request is sent at least seven days before the Seminar and in that case the delegates will have to bear the charges. I request all the professional colleagues to participate and present papers in the seminar and extend cooperation in the organization of the seminar.
