Dear Dr Manjunatha,
Thank you for the information on the workshop. I really appreciate what you
are doing to develop the capacities of librarians in India, not only you as
an individual, but I have noticed that nearly everywhere in India,
professionals are working hard to ensure that all libraries are managed
according to current trends.
I simply wish that the wonderful experience India has in this area should
be shared with other developing countries. Recently, (20 november 2012- 05
January 2013) I attended a two months training course under SCAAP/ Indian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Fluid Control Research Institute in
Palakkad, Kerala where we studied amongs other library software, Greestone,
Koha, etc. Participants came from more than 30 countries around the world
including Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Cameroon, Zambia,
Syria, Russia, etc.
You will be shocked to learn that digital libray is still a new concept in
nearly all African countries, yet, modern library management requires
digitization.
Africa would be very greateful if such programmes could be designed to
support their professionals, mostly from universities and colleges.
Many thanks
