New Millennium LIS Professionals National Seminar on Transforming UNIVERSITY Libraries: JNU Leading the way Date: January 28, 2015 at 9:00 A.M Venue: Auditorium-I, Convention Centre, JNU Supported by Concept Note: The role of university library systems over a decade has undergone varied diverse changes. The university libraries have had to compete with the “world wide web” and IT savvy users to get the eyeball attention. These libraries, are not only started opening 24X7 physically but also making the available, all resources, at a touch of the key 24x7. In the University Library Systems, JNU is leading the way with modern, advanced services available round the clock not in campus but anywhere, anytime through the virtual world. The message has been loud and clear to the library leaders that transformation of university libraries is essential to deliver a fast, simple and systematic services through various tools to integrate all of the library’s’ diverse resources. The National Seminar intends to showcase and launch the services and tools recently initiated in the university library as a role model. In this series it includes New JNU Library website; Web Scale Discovery Solution; Athens Cloud based Access Gateway and Launch of Website of ETD 2015: 18th International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertations. i. The new JNU Library website has been designed on a open source and with attractive appearance, updated content, more functionality and usability with modern library world services integration. ii. The JNU Library through its dynamic design of “single search box” of Discovery Services intends to bring patrons back, to the library, as their first point of call for their information needs. The traditional tools provided by the library to search various library databases, catalogues and other electronic resources, all of which are in different silos and have totally uncommon characteristics leading to underutilized usage of library resources, among other challenges. Similarly, the Athens cloud solution adopted by JNU will ensure that all the patrons of JNU can now have access to virtually every subscribed information resource on their finger tips from the comfort of their homes or any other part of the world. iii. JNU library will be organising ETD 2015: 18th International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertations, which is an international symposium and a platform for gathering of current and future researchers and practitioners in the area of Electronic Theses and Dissertations. This event will be held in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Campus, New Delhi, India during 4th - 6th November 2015 with a theme “Evolving Genre of ETDs for Knowledge Discovery”. It is a unique event, first time to be organised in India. The event will provide an international forum where professionals and practitioners will deliberate upon the challenges and problems which they encounter while setting up ETD Archives.
