Many librarians offer press clipping services. Do they know the value of their services? Can the put a price tag? (and recover the costs involved?). Following message gives an idea how much BMC (Bombay Municipal Corporation) is spending on acquiring information through press clippings. It is surprising how giving an SDI service becomes BMC's mandate. Perfect
example of how a gov body can misuse tax payers money without any return.

I do not look at it that way. When the annual budget of BMC is 12866
crores, spending 1.5 crores on procuring vital information necessary
for its functioning is not a big sum. If any public library is given
that challenge to provide the service how many will take it up? How
many will qualify? How many will deliver? Are they geared up? Do they
see an opportunity in govt as a customer for SDI/CAS services? BMC is
not offering SDI service. They are consuming that service. Hope I am
clear.

If that is the case, the information officer or BMC officials who need these
service shall adopt to one or combination of the following methods:
1. Subscribe to relevant RSS feeds from the online newspaper websites - all
most all national and regional newspapers are online
2. Information officer shall be able to classify and make abstract emails,
in frequency as required from the RSS feeds of all required newspaper clips
in electronic/ print copy and disseminate
3. Create a centralised and indexed database of all the articles in their
electronic version and make links to the newspaper websites
