Re: [LIS-Forum] Test mail from the moderator
Dear Member, An update on the above mail. The major issue of delayed delivery of approved lis-forum mails seem to have been resolved after upgrading the LIS-Forum discussion list software. However, a few new issues have cropped up after the upgrade! One of them is, LIS-Forum has automatically unsubscribed several hundreds of registrations! Not able to figure out what could have triggering such a behaviour? A plausible cause could be the LIS-Forum's automatic bounce processing policy. Every time a lis-forum mail bounces, bounce score for that particular email id is incremented either by 0.5 or 1 depending on the reason for the bounce. When the bounce score is greater than the bounce score threshold set by the moderator, the subscription is automatically disabled. My guess is that in the older version of software, the automatic subscription disabling feature may not have been working as it should have, resulting in the accumulation of a large number of email IDs, which may have become defunct for various reasons. After the upgrade, the automatic disabling feature of the software may have purged all the defunct email ids resulting in large scale disabling of subscriptions. Every lis-forum registration, which is being automatically disabled/unsubscribed, an auto mail is being sent to that effect, The content of the auto mail is given below for your reference:

Dear Members, As many of you would have observed, of late, LIS-Forum discussion list was behaving bit erratically. One of the main >issues was that, the approved messages were taking more than 3-4 days to reach the members' inboxes!
I have now installed a latest version of the discussion list software (Mailman) on a different computer system with better hardware >configuration. Hopefully, the list should resume its normal functioning.
Its quite likely that a few of the approved postings from the old system, which is now off the network, may not have been distributed. If >you have made a lis-forum posting during the last week, or so, you are welcome a make a fresh posting once again.
Note: LIS-Forum postings should be made only to, lis-forum at ncsi.iisc.ernet.in
Best regards, Francis
