Friends: Here is an article on how to predict future Nobel Prize winners based on citation analysis. Best wishes. Arun [Subbiah Arunachalam] ---------------------- By David Pendlebury Research Services, Thomson Scientific In 1989, David Pendlebury, in the pages of The Scientist, (Vol. 3[19]: 14, 2 October 1989) drew up a list of 20 highly cited researchers who might win the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. That same year, two of the 20 suggested names were chosen for the Nobel: Harold E. Varmus and J. Michael Bishop. Subsequently, four more of the 20 received the Prize: Edwin G. Krebs in 1992, Alfred G. Gilman in 1994, Eric R. Kandel in 2000, and Sydney Brenner in 2002. Of course, while six were correct choices, 14 were wrong--or at least wrong to date.
