Workshop on Koha Software at NCL Pune during 2nd-4th September 2015

Dear all, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune is organizing workshop on Koha an open source library automation software from 2nd-4th September 2015 at NCL, Pune. Koha (http://koha-community.org ) is the first free and open source library automation package (ILS). It allow libraries to carry out their day to day activities such as Acquisitions, Cataloguing, Circulation, Serial Control easily and making their OPACs available on Internet without any trouble. Koha allow libraries to easily make their collections on web and with UNICODE, RSS support. Development of Koha is sponsored by libraries of varying types and sizes, volunteers, and support companies from around the world. It is built using international library standards and protocols that ensure interoperability between Koha and other systems. It supports technologies like cataloguing data to store in MARC 21 and UNIMARC, allow to import data from variety of Z39.50 target clients. Single installation of Koha can handle multiple branch libraries which allow to avoid duplication of work at a great extent and achieve standardization. It is completely developed with web interface for users as well as for librarians. First version of Koha was released during 2000 and since then almost every fortnightly new features are incorporated in new releases for more than a decade now. It is easy for librarians to provide new services to its users through Koha without looking out for any other software. Across India several funding agencies have also taken steps to implement Koha in their divisions/labs/centres. Especially in CSIR all of its labs will be using Koha and work is in progress. Sofar out of 39 labs 26 labs have already migrated to Koha. Across the world big moment has been happening in using Koha from school libraries to national libraries. Several countries, states have made it mandatory to use Koha. Looking at its popularity and demand from users, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune has organized a National workshop on Koha. The purpose of this workshop is to provide hands-on training to library professionals by providing adequate practical knowledge which will help them to automate their libraries on their own by using Koha. Workshop comprises of lectures, demonstration and hands-on training using Koha software in detailfrom installation to using all modules in detail. Each participant will be provided with a dedicated machine to get control on having enough practical experience. Resource Persons: Prof. ARD Prasad, Head, DRTC, Bangalore Dr. Sunita Barve, Sr. Tech.
