Dr. S. R. Ranganathan Memorial Lectures - 2022

Dear Friends: The Dr. S. R. Ranganathan Memorial Lecture, instituted and organized by the Sarada Ranganathan Endowment for Library Science (SRELS), is an intellectual treat to the LIS community. This year’s SRR Memorial Lecture will be delivered by: * Dr. Pertti Vakkari, Professor Emeritus of Information Studies, Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences, Tampere University, Finland; * On the topic: Task-based Information Searching * On 9th August 2022, which also happens to be Dr. Ranganathan’s birth date; * At the Documentation Research and Training Centre (DRTC), Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore. * Prof. CRE Raja, Head, Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore Centre Presides The lectures will be delivered in two parts: 4:00-5:00 PM – Lecture 1: Information Search Patterns in Complex Tasks 5:00-5:30 PM – Coffee Break 5:30-6:30 PM – Lecture 2: Assessing Information Search by Task Outcome. 6:30-7:00 PM – High-Tea ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Dr. Pertti Vakkari’s research interests include information seeking, task-based information searching, fiction searching, and methodologies for evaluating interactive information retrieval. His work has appeared in the proceedings of numerous conferences, in edited monographs, and leading journals such as Information Processing & Management and JASIST. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Documentation, and Information Processing & Management. Dr. Vakkari has been a member in several program committees of conferences like ISIC, IIiX , ECIR and TPDL. In 2012 he received the ASIS&T - SIGUSE Award for outstanding contributions to information behaviour. On behalf of the Sarada Ranganathan Endowment for Library Science, I have pleasure in inviting all the members of LIS forum and information professionals to attend the lectures.
