Title: Metamorphosis of Library physical space to virtual environment: A retrospect SPEAKER: Prof. Lalitha Aswath, Dept. of Library and Information science. Bangalore University PLACE: Sarada Ranganathan Endowment for Library Science (SRELS) 702, 'Upstairs', 42nd Cross, III Block, Rajajinagar, Bangalore - 560 010 DATE & TIME: Friday March 13, 2015 at 6.15 PM Abstract: A lot of literature has been published world over about planning and designing of library buildings focusing on space, service and user requirements/dimensions. There is an increase in the diversity of new libraries constructed around the world, making an attempt to integrate architectural expression, inspiring internal environment, good functionality and continued research in converting the existing spaces in to a more conducive and continuously accommodative space. Library building and space management is not much researched area in Indian Librarianship. Research output in LISA from 1968-2011 and web of sciences has shown only 30 publications constituting to 0.80% of the total output on the issue. Irrespective of this academic indifference, it is the umbrella sheltering both human and material resources useful for educational and research goals of any college or University. Here an attempt has been made to explore the principles behind establishing the library as space, place and a virtual environment in academic establishments. Profile: Dr. Lalitha Aswath, Professor, Department of Library & Information Science, Bangalore University, has got 34 years of teaching experience for Post Graduate students. Her area of interest is Human Resource Management, Information Processing & Retrieval, Information Technology application to Libraries and information centers, Management of Library and Information Centers. She has published over 63 research articles in various National and international journals. 3 students have been awarded PhD degrees and 7 are working for PhD under her supervision. She is visiting faculty to University of Jammu and Osmania University. She has edited two conference voulems. Dr. Lalitha Aswath has served various administrative roles namely Chairperson of Board of Studies, Chairperson of Board of Examinations, Director, Bangalore University Prasaranga and Printing Press, Academic Council Member of NMKRV College for women, IGNOU Social Science School Board Member, SAP advisory committee member at Dept. of LISc, Karnatak University, SAP advisory committee member at Dept. of LISc., Annamalai University. About BITS & BYTES Lecture Series: A Joint lecture series initiated in Bangalore by three LIS organizations namely - NCSI-Net Foundation, Karnataka State Library Association (KALA) and Sarada Ranganathan Endowment for Library Science (SRELS).
