UNESCO-SALIS E-learning Portal formally opened for public on 5.1.08
Date: Mon, 7 Jan 2008 01:49:37 -0800 (PST) From: Arunachalam Hariharan <hariharan_ah@yahoo.com> Dear Friends, I am happy to inform you that UNESCO-SALIS e-learning Portal on Awareness Raising on Information Literacy Competency Skill Development for Southern Asia was formally opened to public by Padmashree Dr. Nalli Kuppusamy Chetty in the presence of Mr. A.Natarajan, former Director, Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai and Mr. N. Avadaiappan, Director, Connemara Public Library on 5.1.2008 at Connemara Public Library, Chennai. The Society for the Advancement of Library and Information Science (SALIS), India, in collaboration with UNESCO has just launched the portal. The project aims to raise awareness and enhance information literacy competency skills of laymen as well as information professionals, educators, students and general public. Its objectives are fully in line with UNESCOâs mandate to bridge the digital divide and UNESCOâs vision of Knowledge Societies. The e-learning portal will cover a number of self-learning modules (courses) such as: 1. Information Communication Technology (ICT) 1. 1. ICT 1.2. Computers 1.3. Networks 1.4. Internet 1.5. World Wide Web (WWW) 2. Information Literacy 3. Information Literacy Models and Standards 4. Lifelong Learning and Development of Life Skills 5. Information Literacy Assessment 6. Information Services for the Disabled People 7. Freedom of Information/Right to Information 8. Sample Information Literacy Programmes for - 8.1 School Library - 8.2 College/University Library - 8.3 Special Library - 8.4 Public Library - 8.5 Community Information Centres You can also view the video clippings posted in the site on Information Literacy. This portal is available at http://salisonline.org and opened to all for learning. You are all welcome to visit the site and register your name.
