Workshop on Digital Preservation in India 7th November 2008, FICCI, New Delhi With the wide-scale adoption of the Internet and the rise of the World Wide Web, the world has been overwhelmed by digital information. Individuals and institutions are producing digital data on a massive scale: some of it is born, lives and dies only in digital form. Digital preservation is emerging as a trustworthy solution ensuring long-term access to the information. While large-scale projects have been initiated across the world in the area of Digital Preservation, much work needs to be done in India. At the same time the requirements in India are different from the requirements in developed regions of the world. Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in association with Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India is organizing a Workshop on Digital Preservation in India on 7th November 2008 at FICCI, Federation House, Tansen Marg, New Delhi-110001. The objective of this workshop is to bring together all stakeholders to a common platform to understand the activities undertaken by various bodies in this area and to develop a national stand to promote, educate and encourage digital preservation further.
