National Level Workshop on 'Advanced DSpace' at GIPE, Pune from 25 - 27 Aug 2014
Dear All Greetings from the GIPE Library! DSpace is the most implemented digital library software around the world. According to Directory of Open Access Repository (DOAR), of the 2679 registered Repositories, 1133 (42%) are using DSpace. Whereas, in India, of the 69 Repositories, 43 (62%) are using DSpace. Due to varying technical skills of the administrators, it is observed that most of these repositories use different versions from DSpace 1.6 to DSpace 4.1 and also some of the powerful features of DSpace are underutilized. Considering this, GIPE has planned a workshop on 'Advanced DSpace' to bring all the repositories under one version and make use of the most of the DSpace features. Another purpose of this workshop will be to develop a pool of experienced DSpace experts by providing hands-on training with ample practical knowledge that will enable them to build most effective digital repositories in India using DSpace. Workshop will comprise of lectures, demonstration and hands-on training using latest DSpace in detail. Each participant will be provided with a dedicated machine. Resource Person: Prof A R D Prasad, Documentation Research and Training Centre (DRTC) , Bangalore Target Participants: LIS Professionals, Digital Library Administrator, and DSpace Administrators with working knowledge of DSpace. Number of participants is limited to 20 only. The participants will be selected on first come first served basis. Topics that will be covered during the Workshop. 1. DSpace installation on Unbuntu from scratch 2. Customization of input worksheets 3. DSpace access restriction & authorization (based on IP, Domain) 4. Import/Export 5. DSpace hit search, did you mean, request copy feature, Item Mapper, Disable User Login etc. 6. OAI-PMH / ORE 7. Solr, Sword, LNI, REST protocol 8. Vocabulary control and 9. Using Library of Congress authority files 10. DSpace statistics based on Solr 11. Discovery Module 12. Embargo Configuration 13. Item level versioning 14. Enabling Google Scholar 15. DSpace Customization of screens, mails 16. Customizing Language interface 17. DSpace backup/restore and upgrade Registration fees: Rs. 4000/- Only. Includes Workshop Kit on CD-ROM (LibLiveCD with LUbuntu 12.4 LTS, Koha 3.16, Drupal 7.28 and DSpace 4.1) and working Lunch and Tea / Coffee.
