NII, Japan, promotes cyber science infrastructure
Dear Dr Lahiri/ Dr Vijayaditya: In Japan, NII is proactively promoting open archiving in universities. That is an example we may follow with great benefit. Regards. Arun ---- National Institute of Informatics Initiative for Development and Dissemination of Scholarly Contents, National Institute of Informatics Outline National Institute of Informatics (NII) promotes cyber science infrastructure (CSI) in both the aspects of network and of digital contents for scholarly communication in academic community, collaborating with universities and research institutions. NII's content-related services (NII-REO, NII-ELS, and metadata database project) are now to be integrated into a general framework to facilitate dissemination of scholarly information. Prospective systems to share scholarly information should have an archival layer of digital content repositories as well as a portal layer of user interface. Universities and research institutions are therefore expected to establish their own institutional repositories so as to enhance their visibility and social accountability at the same time to strengthen the research environment for their academic members. In academic year 2005, NII initiated an experimental program to support 19 universities to launch institutional repositories. * Hokkaido University: HUSCAP * Tohoku University * University of Tsukuba * University of Tokyo * Tokyo Institute of Technology * Tokyo Gakugei University * Chiba University: CURATOR * Nagoya University Nagoya Repository/ Academic Knowledge Factory * Kanazawa University * Kyoto University * Osaka University * Okayama University: OU-DIR * Hiroshima University: Hiroshima University Repository * Yamaguchi University * Kyushu University * Nagasaki University * Kumamoto University * Keio University * Waseda University: DSpace at Waseda University ___________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
