Thanks, Sukhdev Singh. ----------------------------------------------------- A Seminar on "Trends and Strategic Issues for Libraries in Global Information Society" is being organised by Department of Library & Information Science Panjab University, Chandigarh-160014 from 18 - 19 March 2008. It is sponsored by ICSSR (North Western Regional Center), Chandigarh. Scope of the Seminar: The tidal wave of ICT has already started compelling Libraries and Information Centers to analyze new trends and work out strategies so as to play a vital role in the newly emerging global information society. It has not only brought a change in the library and information services, but also on the roles of librarians and information professionals. Some of the challenges that the information professionals are required to strategically address include digital divide, information society, e-learning, e-governance, open source, etc. They have to stay relevant in increasingly fluid and dynamic Information Society by incorporating strategic foresight to explore new markets, products and services and ultimately meet emerging customer needs. In this context, the Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh is organizing a two-day ICSSR sponsored Seminar during the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations 2007-08. The deliberations of the experts and subsequent discussions during the Seminar will help develop insight into the strategic issues and will provide the road map for building the global information society. Target Participants: - Library & Information Science Professionals - LIS Educators - Research Scholars - Students of Library and Information Science Seminar Venue: The two-day ICSSR sponsored Seminar will be held at ICSSR North Western Regional Centre, ICSSR Complex, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Registration Fee: The Registration Fee for the local participants (without accommodation) is Rs.250.00. It will cover a Pre-Seminar Volume, two days lunch, tea and refreshments. Advance payments may be made by Demand Draft in favour of "Chairperson, Department of Library & Information Science, Panjab University" payable at Chandigarh. The last date for registration is 1st March, 2008. Accommodation: Accommodation can be arranged for the outstation participants on extra payment of Rs. 500/- along with the Registration Fee. The participants who require accommodation will have to inform the Organizing Secretary in advance latest by 18th February 2008, clearly mentioning their date of arrival and departure so that necessary arrangements can be made. Accommodation will be arranged on payment and first come first serve basis. Submission of papers: The papers should be based on actual empirical research. The paper may be submitted both as a printed copy as well as through email as .doc file. The last date to receive the paper is 18th February, 2008. Notification of acceptance will be sent by the Seminar Director through email by 25th February, 2008. Paper submitted after the deadline will result in the papers being excluded from the Seminar proceedings. Format for Papers: Paper Size - A4 Line Spacing - 1.5 Font Type - Times New Roman Font Size - 11 Page Margins - 1" Reference Style - APA Style Note: Paper may be written on any of the facets mentioned above and other related areas. Important dates: Receipt of full papers: 18th February, 2008 Intimation to Author(s): 25th February, 2008 Last date for Registration: 1st March, 2008 Seminar Dates: 18-19th March, 2008 General Instructions: 1.Both invited and contributed papers will be considered. 2.Full Paper with abstract not exceeding 2500 words duly signed by the author(s) as per the format given above should reach the Organizing Secretary by 18th February, 2008. 3.A declaration by the author(s) should be made separately that the paper(s) has / have not been sent elsewhere for publication. 4.All accepted papers will be invited for presentation. However, a generalized presentation must be avoided. 5.Papers accepted for presentation will be included in the printed Pre-Seminar Volume only after receiving the Registration Fee.
