SURAT: With a view to provide doorstep access to various books and magazines to senior citizens, kids and youngsters, Surat Municipal Corporation ( SMChttp://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/search?q=SMC) has earmarked a fund worth Rs 10 lakh for the 'mobile library' project. * The standing committee has approved the mobile library project under state government's 'Vanche Gujarat' initiative for year 2011-12. Official sources said the mobile library will be equipped with books on various topics, newspapers, magazines etc and it will be stationed outside public gardens and parks. The mobile library project would be a huge success among senior citizens visiting public parks and gardens in the morning and evening hours. They (senior citizens) would have a great opportunity to read books as they cannot visit SMC-run Narmad Libraryhttp://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/search?q=Narmad%20Library located on Ghod Dod Road. "Specialised vehicles will be acquired for the mobile library project. The mobile library would be stationed at public gardens and parks for a couple of days at a stretch so that citizens can get its benefits," a senior civic officer said. Sources added the registration of people intending to read the books will be done at the mobile counter itself by taking their identification proofs and contact numbers. If the members don't find the books of their interest in the mobile library, then they will get it the next day from the central library. * -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
