The Alliance of Big Ten Research Universities in the US have come forward to support arXiv. Because the faculty and students of these universities benefit immensely from the services provided by arXiv. This is the kind of voluntary cost sharing I would like Indian researchers and research institutions to take part in. At a time when Indian higher education institutions and the many laboratories under different agencies of the Government (DAE, DST, DBT, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, UGC, etc.) are spending huge sums to provide access to information to their faculty, students and scientists, the money often going to beef up the profits of greedy commercial publishers in Europe and North America, I believe it is only fair we support arXiv. It is our ethical and moral duty. Regards.
