MULISSA event 5: Friday Talk Mysore University Library and Information Science Students Association (MULISSA), Department of Library and Information Science (DLIS), University of Mysore, Mysoreorganized a lecture on �St. Agnes College information center - a Profile� by Smt. S.T. Sudha, Librarian, St. Agnes College, Mangalore on October 7, 2005 at 3.30 pm. She is at present dupted as a full time researcher at DLIS, Mysore under Faculty Improvement Programme. The lecture was arranged in the umbrella of �Friday Talk� series. Summary of the talk: St. Agnes College was established in the year 1921 and it is one of the leading women�s colleges in India and is known for imparting value-based education. The college is offering courses in arts, Science, commerce business management, and computer science. It also offers honors, diploma, certificate and other remedial courses. The college has been accorded �A� grade by NAAC in its assessment report. St. Agnes college information center is one of the pivotal centres for the college. Information center imparts formal and informal education indirectly through print and electronic media, advises the faculty in their scholarly pursuits. The information center helps the user community in curricular, co-curricular and extra curricular activities. Services are rendered to outsiders, faculty and students. It renders services like circulation, reference, CD-Rom, textual information service, reprography, newspaper clippings, index to articles of topics pertaining to different disciplines and other general topics, internet, scanning services and personal assistance to all the users. User education is imparted at the beginning of the year based on requirements of the users. The information center is putting its conscientious efforts to transform the readers from passive learners to voracious readers. Faculty members are requested to stimulate intellectual curiosity and imbibe self-learning skills among the students. The librarian has trained and motivated her staff members to synthesize technology and traditional print culture to ensure invaluable service to the user community. The information centre of the college has also organized a few workshops, seminars, exhibitions and image analysis events. Students asked a few questions on computerization, preparation required by library for NAAC assessment, method of stock verification, status of the librarians etc. Ms. B. Pramodini welcomed the gathering and Mr. M. Sunil Kumar proposed vote of thanks. This report is prepared by Mr. B.
