Ramshirish ABSTRACT Proliferation of information on the web in every subject area has created chaos. Web requires to be classified and organized. Terminologies are important to understand a domain of knowledge. But, preparation of terminological databases is both time and money consuming activity. To overcome this problem, Terminological Interchange Formats came into picture. In the present era of Information Technology people are using different software and various formats to maintain the terminological databases. This is an obstacle for interchange of data from one database to another. For this we need standard interchange format, which should be both platform and format independent. MARTIF & OLIF are efforts in this direction. MARTIF deals with concept oriented terminology systems and OLIF focuses on the lexical side i.e., parts of speech, subject area, homonyms etc. This seminar aims to give an ove! rview of the MARTIF and OLIF formats.
