Dear All
I am extremely sorry to inform you the sad demise of Mr P K Garde at the
age of 96 at his Pune Residence on 19 Apr 2013. He was born on 24 Aug 1917.
He completed his diploma in Librarianship at Madras University in 1941
under the noble guidance of none other than the Father of Library Science,
Dr S R Ranganathan.
He served as Assistant Librarian in Delhi University from 1945 � 1950 and
taught Library Science Course in Delhi University from 1947 � 1950. Later,
he served as a Librarian of ECAFE (Unite Nations Economic Commission for
Asia and the Far East), Bangkok from 1950 � 1962 and Reference Chief at
United Nations Library from 1963 - 1976.
He was Joint Secretary of Indian Library Association (ILA) from 1948 � 1950
and a Member of the Indian Standards Committee during 1948 � 1950. He was
also an Advisor to �Pune City Local History Project� from 1992 � 2000.
Mr Garde delivered second �Sarada Ranganathan Lecture� in 1966 on �The
United Nations Family of Libraries� at Bangalore. He authored a Reference
Book �Directory of Reference Works published in Asia� that was published by
UNESCO in 1957.
He was very generous and donated his earnings to many institutions
including the �Naralkar Foundation� from Pune.
I whole heartedly pay my tributes to this departed soul with respect and
grief.
