Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, (constituent college of Nitte University) Deralakatte, Mangalore on 28th & 29th January 2011 in association with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. Established by late Justice K.S. Hegde as a part of Nitte Education Trust in 1985, the A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences has made rapid progress in the field of Dental Education, Dental & Oral Health Care systems and research. The Institution along with its group of satellite Centers spread over 4 districts of Karnataka and North Kerala region has been highly successful in producing quality Professionals with a motto “Service to Humanity”. The vision of Justice K.S. Hegde has become reality under the able leadership by his dynamic son Sri N. Vinaya Hegde. In the year 2008, the Dental College was recognized as Deemed University by the UGC, and the Nitte University was thus formed. At present there are 7 Health science institutions under Nitte University, and 17 other institutions imparting education in various disciplines under the umbrella of Nitte Education Trust and also 17 rural health centres for the benefit of public health. The Institution is located at Deralakatte around 12 K.M. from Mangalore City, in a sprawling campus surrounded by beautiful scenic natural greenery. The institution is celebrating its “Silver Jubilee” year in 2010.Karnataka Medical Library Association (R) [KMLA] was established in the Year 1993, it is only the professional body representing all the Librarians of Health Science Institutions in Karnataka State affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and other deemed Universities. KMLA has been actively involved in imparting training and functioning for the welfare of the professional development of the Health Science Librarians to keep abreast of latest knowledge.   About the Conference: Medical librarians in this era have to keep pace with fast changing digital and health care environments with innovative information, structuring and technological aptitude. It is not just learning or providing access to information, it is equally important that medical librarians have to undertake service orientation, which requires excellent communication skills and teaching ability.   Hence medical librarians are expected to be web managers and medical informatics experts. This Conference would form a basis for learning the advances in Health Sciences in a librarian’s perspective.
