Documentation Research & Training Centre (DRTC) Indian Statistical Institute 8th Mile, Mysore Road, RVCE Post Bangalore, 560059 SEMINAR-5 (2018-2020) TITLE THE CONTEMPORARY LIBRARIAN AND THEIR CHANGING ROLES Abstract Librarians in the current scenario are redesigning their roles frequently as they must match the pace with the evolving technology. Libraries are adapting modern technologies that user might not be familiar with.Hence,Librarians should be able to help the patrons to remove the difficulty to use those new adaptations.This seminar addresses the historical perspective about the librarians, how their roles are changing with time, the skills that they should possess. The various complications faced by the users due to the huge amount of information and how a librarian can help them deal with such a large amount of information. This seminar also discusses the importance of librarians having a doctorate degree, the ways a librarian acts as a support for a researcher and also the future roles of the librarian. This seminar is useful for the library and information science professionals as it talks about the current and future perspective of their profession.
