INDIAN STATISTICAL INSTITUTE Documentation Research & Training Centre 8th Mile, Mysore Road, RVCE Post Bangalore, 560 059 DRTC Colloquium 1 (2009 2011) Web 2.0 and its implications for Libraries ABSTRACT The nature of the World Wide Web has changed dramatically in the past decade. Web 2.0, as we now know the web, does more than just allow a user to retrieve information - it has become a powerful medium that facilitates interactivity, collaborative work, and exchange of ideas. In this colloquium, we aim to explore the thinking behind Library 2.0 and its implementation - from user centred planning to the need for constant evaluation. This colloquium takes a look at how Web 2.0 technologies have changed the way libraries work, and also dissect concrete examples of Web 2.0 technologies at work in present day libraries. An attempt shall also be made to discuss features of Web 3.0.
