CASSIR - Cross Archive Search Services for Indian Repositories

Dear Member: NCSI, IISc is pleased to announce the setting up of CASSIR - a prototype OAI-based harvesting services. The service is accessible at: http://casein.iisc.ernet.in/oai/ Please note, this is site is still evolving and some of the links may not yet be clickable or functional. This facility has been set up as part of the ongoing project "Development of OAI-based Institutional Repository Services in India". This project is sponsored by Dept. of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The idea behind this service is to federate metadata from the distributed OAI-compliant repositories in the country and provide a single point access (searching and browsing) to the country's research output. The single-point access to the country's research output can become a reality only when all the research institutions in the country set up their open access, OAI-compliant repositories and convince their researchers to deposit a copy of all their research papers in the respective repositories. For the present, a total of 7700+ records have been harvested from 11 different repositories. We request the maintainers of all the OAI-compliant repositories to register their baseURLs at: http://casein.ncsi.iisc.ernet.in.in/oai/add.php This will enable us to harvest the metadata from all registered repositories. Please also let us know if your institution/organization is maintaining a repository but is not OAI-compliant. We'll try and make such repositories OAI-compliant. You may write to filbert@ncsi.iisc.ernet.in or franc@ncsi.iisc.ernet.in for any clarification/comments/assistance. With Best regards, - Filbert and Francis NCSI, IISc Bangalore
