Important reminder Comments on the EC report and its OA recommendations were originally due on June 1. But the deadline was extended until tomorrow, June 15. In the 108 page report, Study on the Economic and Technical Evolution of the Scientific Publication Markets in Europe, the recommendations are on pp. 11-13. For a summary, see my SOAN story from May 2 or my blog posting from April 3. Note especially recommendation A1, which would mandate OA for publicly-funded research. Please send a supportive comment to rtd-scientific-publication@cec.eu.int, today if you can, tomorrow at the latest. You can be sure that OA opponents are sending in their comments. Even a short comment in support of recommendation A1 would be better than no comment at all, whether or not you live in a European country.
