Dear World Friends:
I am working with American Library Association's (ALA) President-Elect Dr. Loriene Roy's Circle of Literacy. You may review her total platform and goals at www.lorieneroy.org.
The Circle of Literacy is addressing literacy issues for the incarcerated (prisoners), indigenous peoples, and immigrants.
My colleague, Maria Casado, and I are specifically working on developing a web page/blog/toolkit that will provide helpful information for immigrants to the USA and to other countries. Maria is addressing immigration to the USA. I am working on compiling best practices of global and international libraries that are serving immigrants in their respective countries.
Perhaps you have a site/link/library to suggest or your own library is providing services to immigrants in your respective countries. Please send them to consult@riosbalderrama.com
or circleofliteracy@riosbalderrama.com.
We are looking for everything from survival and coping information, to learning the national language, to literacy, to any strategy for service to new immigrants that addresses their needs. The immigrant populations may include populations living within yourcountry but new to your city or library service area. They may be "new" for various reasons from refugee status, to temporary worker status etc....
Maria, Dr. Loriene, and I will keep you posted of all developments and do appreciate your willingness to share.
Salamat,
Gracias
Obrigado

Thank you!
Sandra
