College and University librarian teaching or Non-Teaching?
Sir/Madam, If anybody has/have UGC/MHRD order regarding status of College/University librarian, whether it is teaching or Non-Teaching? because We are filing a petition in Karnataka high court. All the best to your venture.
As per the UGC regulation Librarians are treated as Academic Staff. In my
knowledge they are not specifying whether Librarians are teachers but they
are at par with teachers in many respects. I recently came to know that
the Government of Maharashtra issued an order to consider Librarian for the
post of principal according to seniority. I hope our library fraternity
will join hands with Girish in this fight.

Dear Colleagues,
I have copy of of UGC letter No. F.1-9/96(PS) dated June 8, 1998 written
by Shri P Prakash, Dy Secy.(UGC), to Shri H Hanumanthappa, Dy Secy-Edu
Deptt(Karnatka) in reply to his DO letter , and letter no.5-7/2000(PS)
dated 27Jan,2003.Both letters are very categorical in saying
that librarians working in universities and government and aided colleges
as teachers(Non-vocational).However I have no idea of any
letter/notification issued later on by UGC/MHRD.
