Brief Report on Two-day National Level Workshop on Learning Management Systems (LMS)
Date: Mon, 5 Apr 2010 12:02:04 +0530 From: akelap akelpa <akelpa@gmail.com> Sorry for the cross posting Brief Report on Two-day National Level Workshop on Learning Management Systems (LMS) which was held on 26th and 27th March 2010 at Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology. Bangalore. Inaugural function of the workshop commenced with the warm welcome by Dr. Dinesh K. S., Organizing Secretary, Prof. N. J. Rao, Centre for Electronics Design and Technology, Indian Institute of Science inaugurated the workshop and delivered the keynote address, Prof. K. S. Deshikachar, Director, Nagarjuna Education Society was the Guest of Honor and Prof. H. S. Nanda, Principal, Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology presided over the function. The program witnessed the participation of very active and enthusiastic delegates (blend of teachers and library professionals) from the different parts of south India. All the technical sessions were interactive and have created inquisitiveness in further learning and management using LMS. The first and second technical sessions handled by Prof. Rao. In the first session Prof.Rao introduced the design of a course. Stating that the course so designed be and conducted to achieve the educational objectives and program. In this session participants were exposed to instructional system design and competitiveness. The second session comprised of facilitating and enhancing learning by using computer communications Technologies including e-learning and mobile learning. A fair idea was given about instructional design, blended learning, educational process, openness etc. The third session was handled by Mrs. Vani of IIIT-B. The session was mainly dealt with Moodle software, introduces the importance and stressed to use in e-learning. A good aid to make the teaching effective and also online. The next day sessions were effectively handled by Mrs. Vani and Mrs. Vyshnavi of IIIT-B. In these sessions all the participants were learnt to create and design of a course and resources, conducted different instructional activities and finally communication in moodle. They learnt:- 1. Creating text page with the summary, name and text. 2. Creating a web page. 3. Uploading the different type of resources like .doc, .ppt, .pdf, .jpj, .mp3 etc., under administration block. 4. Creating a directory called �Additional Files�. 5. Inserting labels in the topics course format. 6. Uploading a single file assignment. 7. Exercise on chat. 8. Exercise on Choice. 9. Course and user management.and 10.Exercise on course backup and restore and much more. Overall, the sessions were very useful for the entire faculty as creators and managers of course and library professionals as a facilitator of information. The concluding session was very short and crispy. In the feedback session participants were well appreciated the program organization, hospitality of the college and initiation taken up by Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology to promote e-learning using moodle. In particular by Dr.K.S.Dinesh. Further, Sri. N.Chowdappa,Chief Librarian,BMS College of Engineering Bangalore & President, AKELPA congratulated Dr.K.S.Dinesh the organizing secretary of the workshop for having initiated the program on learning management systems (LMS) among engineering colleges of Karnataka for effective organization and also made all the participants stay so comfortable in the college for two days.
