We are pleased to present to you JUMPSTART: India’s first programme for Children’s Content, on the 25th and 26th of August 2011, at the India International Centre. A section of JUMPSTART 2011 is specifically aimed at school teachers and librarians! JUMPSTART has grown from a workshop for 20 writers in Spring 2009 to a programme reaching out to hundreds of professionals and people engaged in the world of children’s content – Publishers, Book Sellers, Writers, Illustrators, Designers, Teachers, Librarians, Storytellers – everyone working with, and interested in working for children’s books. JUMPSTART will include presentations and panel discussions with top leaders and innovators working with children’s content. Leading experts from India and across the world will share their experiences of innovations and experiments; and will discuss potential opportunities and possible pitfalls. The JUMPSTART workshop for Librarians will be conducted by leading experts from India, Germany and US. Looking at various aspects of the library – from making the library attractive to children and young people to encouraging reading habits, storytelling and practical sessions on how to run a library and much more. The Workshop leaders will include: Usha Mukunda has more than 25 years of experience in working with school libraries, children, teachers, librarians, writers and other book lovers. She has also started her own school and has worked with various organizations and agencies including the Karnataka Library Association, NCERT, local governments and schools across India – both rural and urban. In August 2009 she was given the Karnataka State award for her service to school libraries. Usha Mukunda is passionate about books and encouraging reading among India’s youth – and continues to work tirelessly in this field, by conducting seminars and workshops, writing in various media, and organizing book related cultural activities. Marc Aronson is a member of the graduate faculty of the School of Communication and Information Science at Rutgers University where he shares print and digital materials for children and teenagers, with students seeking a Masters in Library and Information Science. A historian by training, he is the author of many award-winning works of non-fiction. Helga Hofmann graduate librarian, has a wide range of professional experiences in various fields of library work. From 1992 to 2000, she was chief librarian of a public library and manager of a branch library. Since 2000 she has been Deputy Head of the School Library Division of the Public Library Frankfurt/Main. Her main areas of responsibilities are centrally organized and managed services – including media processing. She is also in charge of the implementation of school library projects and reading promotion programs. She is an active member of the “Library and School” expert panel of the German Library Association and is nationally and internationally active with consultancy assignments, lectures, and workshops. Eva von Jordan-Bonin, has been Head of the School Library Division of the Public Library Frankfurt/Main since 1998, and Deputy Director of the Public Library since 2006.In addition to management responsibilities and the continuous advancement of services offered by the School Library Division, designing and implementing further training opportunities for various target groups make up an important part of her tasks. From 2003 to 2009, Eva von Jordan-Bonin managed the “Library and School” expert panel of the German Library Association (DBV). JUMPSTART is organized by the German Book Office (GBO) New Delhi, a joint venture of the Frankfurt Book Fair and the Foreign Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany.
