Dear Professionals/Friends, I would like to inform you about the new initiative taken to strengthen the LIS profession and society via the social network entitled "HELP DESK FOR LIBRARY AND SOCIETY" (HDLS). Kindly visit the website (http://lishelp.ning.com)which will be formally launch on 14th November, 2009 i.e. on first day of National library week. Till 14th November kindly evaluate and also sign up/register and let me know any problem and suggest what other pin pointed information can be placed on the site as per its aim & objective. The aim of the Initiative TO STRENGTHEN THE LIBRARY PROFESSION/PROFESSIONAL AND SOCIETY OBJECTIVES 1. To inform library professionals and society about the recent happenings/events. 2. To reduce the rate of corruption from the society and use RTI Act effectively. 3. To help the library users/library professionals on any professional/ technical problem. 4. To make strong/active group of Lis professionals via HDLS. 5. To enhance the status of Lis profession/professionals in the society. 6. To bring all the consortia members at one plate form for resource sharing. 7. To provide one strong common plate form for discussion/highlight professional issues and their solutions. 8. Attempt to provide cost free ICT based and other services to LIS professionals and society. Note: kindly propose your name to be included in the list of: 1. Advisory (To advise administrators and other members for improvement) OR 2. Active members (Who could be contacted for professional/other issues along with interest aea for help like Open source software like newgenlib, koha dspace, etc. 3.
