Dear Colleagues, I wish you all a very happy and prosperous dipawali. I am pleased to invite you to the one day awareness seminar on how to access Infrmation and cultural resources at IGNCA. The seminar will be held on 19th November 2010 from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm at IGNCA. The particiaption is free but will be done on first cum first basis. About IGNCA: As you might be aware that Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) is a premier research and academic institute engaged in preservation, documentation and promotion of Indian Art and Culture. The IGNCA established in the memory of Smt. Indira Gandhi by the Government of India, in 1987, as an autonomous institutions encompassing the study and experience of all forms of the arts -- each form with its own integrity, yet within a dimension of mutual interdependence, interrelatedness with nature, social structure and cosmology. This view of the arts, integrated with, and essential to the large matrix of human culture, is predicated upon Smt. Gandhi's recognition of the role of the arts as essential to the integral quality of a person, at home with himself and society. It partakes of the holistic world-view so forcefully articulated throughout the Indian tradition, and emphasized by modern Indian leaders from Mahatma Gandhi to Rabindranath Tagore. About Kala Nidhi Reference Library: Kala Nidhi Division of the IGNCA is a Culture Knowledge Resource Centre. It is the knowledge hub of IGNCA and is designed to support the research objectives of the various in-house Divisions as well as also acts as national facilities to support scholars and researchers in India and abroad. With a collection of 1,50,000 books, back issues of over 150 foreign titles in the area of Art and Archeology, over 100,000 visuals (all digitized), over 3000 rare books (all digitized), 3,00,000 manuscripts (All digitized), current issues of 250 Indian and foreign Journals, electronic full text databases such as JSTOR, Wilson Arts Abstract and Index, EBSCO Humanities International Complete, J-Gate Arts & Humanities, 10 Personal Libraries of eminent scholars like Dr. Suniti Kumar Chatterjee, Prof. Hazari Prasad Dewedi, Thakur Jai Dev Singh, Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan (under processing) etc. are the resources available under disposal of users of Kala Nidhi Reference Library. Subject Coverage: The collection covers the various subjects such as Anthropology, Archaeology, Architecture, Arts, Bibliography, Computer, and Information Science, Conservation, Culture, Dance, Folklore, History, Humanities, Library & Information Science, Linguistics, Literature, Museum Studies, Music, Numismatics, Oriental Studies, Performing Arts, Philosophy, Puppetry, Religion, History of Science, Sociology, Social Sciences, Theatre and Area Studies etc. Besides this, over 200 IGNCA publications and 50 DVDs released by IGNCA, large collection of archival material such as photographs, art objects, artifacts, masks etc. in IGNCA Cultural Archives along with over 1000 hours of video documentations on Cultural Heritage are also accessible to users through Kala Nidhi Reference Library. Kala Nidhi Reference Library has also started development of Article Indexing & Abstracting Database of Indian Journals received in Reference Library. This may be the first initiative of this kind in India. Digital Library : Kala Nidhi Reference Library is in process of development of Digital Library which will have digital collection of over 2.5 lacs manuscripts, 1.00 lac Slides/visual, 3000 Rare Books, Photographs, paintings, masks and audio/video etc. How to access Cultural Resources at IGNCA: All above resources are available for free consultation. Kala Nidhi Reference Library is open to all with the following types of Memberships:- 1. For one week - Access is free of charges 2. Temporary membership - Rs.100/- for one month 3. Annual Membership Fee for students Rs.250/- P.A and other scholars Rs.500/- P.A. 4. Annual membership Renewal for students Rs. 150/- P.A and other scholars Rs.300/- P.A. 5. Life Membership:- On time payment of Rs.5000/- Copies of the Manuscripts: The copies of various collections available at IGNCA may be obtained as per the IGNCA rules. Scholars and researchers can also access3,00,000 manuscripts collected from 49 libraries in India and 6 Libraries from outside India. They can also obtain copies, subject to copyright restrictions, and indeed the conditions spelt out in the MOUs signed between IGNCA and concerned manuscript Library. As a general practice one need to seek permission of concerned library to obtain a copy of the manuscripts from IGNCA collection. Copies are being made available in Digital/Microfilm/Print formats on charge basis. The consultation to all above manuscripts at IGNCA Reference Library is open to all without any charges. Online catalogue of these manuscripts will be made available soon at IGNCA website. Opening Hours: The library remains open from 9.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. from Monday to Saturday except on Government Holidays.
