Indian Statistical Institute Documentation Research and Training Centre Bangalore 560059 Seminar (5) 2012-14 Crowdsourcing: An Overview and general idea of some crowdsource projects Abstract The notion of crowdsourcing has emerged in recent years. It is a new paradigm which combines the individual and independent ideas related to crowd technology and outsourcing. It can be described as a problem solving model for distribution of information which is available online. The word crowdsourcing was coined in 2006. Crowdsourced applications help in the process of creating associated workflows within any organization or system and is aimed towards division of labour for cumbersome tasks. The present talk focusses on the general idea of crowdsourcing, its needs and what the idea of crowdsourcing offers in perspective to library and information science. Besides these, an overview of different crowdsourced projects like Amazon Mechanical Turk, Wikipedia, GooseBerry Patch, Arcbazar has been highlighted.
