Dear friends After a long time, I am finding a good initiative in the survey that is being conducted by Dr D P Tripathi. (ETD Metadata Lifecycle at Higher Educational Institutes published in Lis Forum Vol 221 Issue 27. https://forms.gle/Qs9fTJUiXqpRMwAq8) We are all running behind the technology, forgetting the basics of Library and Information Science. Obviously we can not forget technology, but metadata is inevitable for proper information retrieval and sharing. I found that people give least importance to metadata and its maintenance. In fact the Institutional Repository of Goa University was built with utmost care, basically in maintaining metadata standards. Dr M Tapaswi former Scientist and Information professional from NIO was the person behind that task. He was monitoring every new uploads and its metadata for its correctness. I wish Dr D P Tripathi all the best for his efforts and recommend professionals to cooperate with the survey.
