Sad Demise of Mr. S.Thammaiah,

To All LIS Professionals, It is very sad to know that Mr. S.Thammaiah, former Director, Dept. of Public Libraries, Karnataka expired on Thursday, 13th May 2021 at his home in Nandini Layout. Though a very active professionals but in recent years he almost had lost contact with his fraternity. Mr. Thammaiah completed his B.Lib.Sc. from Karnatak University, Dharwad, in 1966. He was one of the earliest to serve the Department, as the Public Libraries Act came in being in 1966. He was one among the few from the Department who had a thorough knowledge of the Karnataka State Public Libraries Act, 1965. Mr. Thammaiah served the department in various capacities, from Technical Assistant to Director of the Department, and had also served as Chief Librarian (Now Dy Director) in Mangalore, Gulbarga and Bangalore Jayanagar City Central Library. His unique achievement in the Department was to undertake a computerised Stock Verification of 20 Lakh books the entire collection under the City Central Library Jayanagar and its Branches, then using the dBASE-IV DBMS progrmming. On behalf of Karnataka State Library Association, and on behalf of its members I offer my heartfelt condolences at the sad demise of Mr. Thammaiah. and to his bereaved family to bear the loss.
