INDIAN STATISTICAL INSTITUTE Documentation Research Training Centre 8th Mile Mysore Road Bangalore 560059 DRTC Colloquium (3) 2011-2013 ABSTRACT Cloud Computing and application in Libraries Cloud computing is a new technology model for IT services which many businesses and organizations are adopting. It allows them to avoid locally hosting multiple servers and equipment and constantly dealing with hardware failure, software installs, upgrades and compatibility issues. For many organizations, cloud computing can simplify processes and save time and money. Libraries may soon be building and managing their own data centers. This model would let libraries maintain more control over the applications and data stores that contain sensitive, private information about patrons. In this presentation we discuss Infrastructure virtualization through cloud computing which is an attractive choice due to growth in the size of the indexed document collection, new features and most prominently usage. With the purpose of applying Cloud Computing to library, the presentation proposed to improve current user service model with Cloud Computing. Also try to explore some of the security issues surrounding data location, mobility and availability and also discuss how cloud computing solutions could be beneficial to libraries.
