Sri Sam Pitroda, Chairman, National Knowledge Commission, told that, today our country has got 54 thousand libraries and people should make use of these libraries to their needs. He delivered special lecture on ‘Towards the Knowledge Society - The Imperatives’ in Shivarathreeswara Centre, JSS Educational Institutions Premises, 18th Cross, 8th Block, Jayanagar, Bangalore on Sunday 30th Aug 2009.
There are libraries established by Scholl, colleges, dept. of public libraries and some of the private libraries. If all these libraries are connected, plenty of knowledge can be gained and preserved, he said.
He has highlighted the necessity of establishing the separate National Library Commission. He told that, a well-known person with social concern should be made responsible for the commission. And also he said that, in association with National Library Commission, libraries should be developed with the ultramodern facilities and staff there by common people, students, researchers should use libraries effectively.
