Documentation Research and Training Centre Indian Statistical Institute Conference on ICT for facilitating Digital Learning Environments 11th - 13th January 2006 Organized by Documentation Research and Training Centre (DRTC) Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Bangalore - 560059 Digital resources and technology facilitate provision of packaged and online services. The library and information profession has indeed shown much interest in the digital environment. However, due to some of the unique features of digital resources in networked and distributed mode, there is a need for orientation and training to enable harnessing the full potential of digital resources and services. The Digital Learning Environment (DLE) encompasses an interesting range of activities from making available online learning and teaching resources to services related to digital instruction, curriculum design, simulated classroom activities, monitoring, examination and quizzing. Learning is a life long endeavor with different age groups and aptitudes and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can be adequately deployed to facilitate the learning interest irrespective of social and physical constraints. Documentation Research and Training Centre (DRTC), Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) proposes to hold this conference on ICT for facilitating Digital Learning Environment with an objective to elucidate the latest techniques and methods in creating a Digital Learning Environment for information professionals. The conference focuses on the need of ICT, practical models to create the Digital Learning Environment (DLE), learning and teaching resources, modules, social factors and technological implications. The conference will comprehensively explore the theme and sub-themes through: * Invited lectures * Contributed papers * Demonstrations and hands-on sessions * Discussions Themes (but not limited to) Pedagogical paradigms in DLE Components of the Digital Learning Environment ICT for creating learning tools Technology for DLEs E-Learning and its impact on LIS profession Tools for e-learning Resources and method/s of instruction Training of Trainers in the DLE E-learning kiosks, projects and Case Studies Call for Papers A selected few case studies/papers will be presented and discussed.
