Dear friends, We are working on setting up digital library of our institutional repositories mainly theses of postgraduate (MD/MS) students.
Friends, there is a question/ concern kept on the floor regarding the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) which we feel the barrier/ infringement to proceed the above job.
Please share your views, copy of rules /acts if any for reference purpose to set up the digital library
Ownership of copyrights in student theses will depend on the IP policies of the respective institutions. For example, the MIT (USA) policy states that the ownership will rest with the Institute, http://web.mit.edu/policies/13/13.1.html#sub3. In the case of the university of Sydney, the copyright rests with the student, http://sydney.edu.au/copyright/students/research.shtml#protect So, publishing theses through your institute institutional repository will depend on your institute IP policy. In case the the copyright rests with the students, they should be educated to publish a copy of their theses on the institute repository. By doing so, the students' work will get better visibility and impact. Hope this helps. - Francis NCSI, IISc Bangalore, India
