About the Workshop
The digitization and development of digital library is slowly emerging in the Indian libraries, thus providing a context for the integration of information resources with online, virtual and e-learning environments. Under the digital and virtual environment the scholarly publications are increasingly demand but the the publishing policies and procedures of intellectual contents producers are charging heavily on information resources, Alternatively the Open Archives Initiatives (OAI), self archive, institutional archive etc., gaining momentum all over the world, Realizing the significance of digital libraries and digital initiatives, the Library and Information Centre of M.S.Ramaiah Medical College has organized a "National Workshop on Institutional Repositories"
Today information revolution is being complimented by digital revolution Digitization is one of the technological advancements. It brings the resources nearer to the benefit of users. The digitized information .can be used in numerous ways to overcome the barriers of communication. The availability of right information can take study, teaching and research into a new horizon and can help the decision makers to take right decision. The digitization of library and information center's resources has its roots in library automation. But at the same time not all the resources of a library need to be digitized.
Institutional Repository (IR) consists of formally organized and managed collection of digital content generated by faculty, staff and students of an institution. The content of these repositories can be made available for integration with on campus library and course management systems. The availability of right information can take study, teaching and research into a new horizon and can help the decision makers to take right decision. Therefore, This Workshop has been thought of with the following objectives:

This workshop aimed to
v Present an overview of institutional Repositories(IR)
v Emphasise on the use of DSpace software in the development of IRs; and
v Provide hands-on experience in the development of IRs using DSpace

v Infrastructure for IR
v DSpace
v Metadata and Standards
To fulfill the stated objectives, Information Professionals with experience both in teaching and practice were invited to contribute Course materials for the various sub themes of workshop and share their rich experiences as guest faculty. The work shop covers Tutorials, lectures, open discussions and feedback followed by the hands-on experience.

Learned Experts in the field of Library and Information Science are invited to deliver lecturers on the theme of the workshop.

Registration Fee:
The Registration fee for the Workshop is Rs.1000/-(Rupess One Thousand Only). The workshop fee includes working lunch, tea, dinner and resources kit.

The participants are limited to 50
Selection of candidates will be made as per merit, commitment to digital libraries and familiarting with IT applications in Libraries
