Information and Library Studies MSc
Overview
The MSc in Information and Library Studies has been established for
over thirty years and has an excellent record of student success, both
academically and in terms of subsequent professional employment across
the information sector.
Information professionals provide essential expertise in our
knowledge-based society. Information and its effective communication is a
fundamental and vital activity within all areas of industry, commerce,
education, and social life. Professionals working in this broad area
provide expertise in the collection, storage, retrieval, and management of
information. This necessitates an understanding of the need for libraries
and information services, the ways in whichthey are used; the wide variety
of information sources available; as well as a firm grasp of the
underlying theories and principles of management, information retrieval,
and Information Technology. MSc Information >and Library Studies provides
all of these things and more.

Funding
For 2005/2006 SAAS funding is available and all eligible applicants to
the on-campus course will be considered for an award, see Student
Awards Agency for Scotland.

Professional Recognition
The Information and Library Studies Course is fully accredited by the
Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP).
The next accreditation is due in the summer of 2010. CILIP
accreditation means that the course is recognised, around the world,
by other professional bodies such as the American Library Association.
