Dear Friends, UGC has given CAS for librarians vide its notification dated 19 Oct 2006. From this notification, it seems that no advance increaments will be given to Assistant Librarians who joined the profession with PhD. And there is also no provision of giving two increaments for those who completed their PhD in service. In the case of Lecturership if someone has PhD before joining the service, he/she will get the senior scale after 4 years of service. But ALs whether they have the PhD or not, all will get the senior scale after six years of service. This anamoly shows that there is still no parity between librarians and teachers and we must raise this issue with UGC in collaboration with different library associations working in India.
