Even though I am not an active user of NewGenlib, I had opportunity to interact with Shri.Haravu and Shri.Siddarth and learnt a lot about the software. In fact, I consider Shri.Haravu as my first Guru in this field as he gave me the first lessons in library automation when he was working at ICRISAT, Hyderabad. He did pioneering work in library automation using dBase and BASIS, in mid 80s. He has shared and incorporated his rich and practical experience while developing NewGenlib and fully implemented MARC21 standard much before many commercial software could do so. They also used open source RDBMS known for open data standard. Shri.Siddarth has carried forward the research and has offered help to many libraries to install and implement the software, free of cost, including data conversion and maintenance. Shri.Siddarth, despite his extreamly busy schedule, made invaluable contribution as a resource person during two national workshops conducted at our institute on MARC21. I thankfully acknowledge their contribution and their yeoman's service to the library community. thanks, G.K.Manjunath Chief Librarian IGIDR, Mumbai -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
