Dear professional friends, I have come across some librarians complaining about the rejection of their FIP (Faculty Improvement Program of the UGC) applications. According to these librarians, the Bangalore office of the UGC (South Western Region Office)has rejected their applications as librarians are not eligible for FIP as per the XIth plan norms. Professional organizations like the ILA, IALA, KLA and the KALA could take up this matter with the UGC office and provide clear information on the matter. At present the librarians do not know who are all eligible for FIP and what are the conditions required for it. In the Xth plan period librarians have availed this facility to carry out research in Library and Information Science. Responsible professional associations, please take up the matter immediately.
