
Indian Statistical Institute Documentation Research and Training Centre Colloquium (3) 2012-14 Integrated Library Management System to Resources Discovery: Recent Trends Abstract The emergence of technologies has brought about enormous changes to the evolving society, especially in education, learning, and research arenas. Modern libraries are repositories for documents in both, printed and electronic form. Both kinds of documents can be stored/archived, retrieved/access, delivered/downloaded when required. The books and printed materials together with endless and ever increasing scholarly e-resources makes the traditional management of library and information centres a difficult target to accomplish. To overcome these difficulties, new technologies are being adopted like library automation, networking, Internet, web 2.0 etc. And in recent years, the evolution of discovery systems lead towards a model that provides access to a more comprehensive representation of library collections. A variety of products and projects have emerged with the ambitious goal of addressing the content represented in a librarys subscriptions to electronic resources in addition to the books and other materials managed in the integrated library system.
