Regarding the query, I feel that there can't a be a specific answer as this matter is subjective. We have book racks with 7 shelves and we stalk 30 books in each shelf, leaving some space for future. If these questions were objective then I assume that there must have been options with range. Otherwise I question the validity of these two questions. Same thing is applicable to the second question. 10000 books x 6 cards minimum = 60000 cards . One tray can hold 700, some libraries jam pack the tray to accomodate more than 900 cards. Another variation, College libraries may not prepare series and classified cards. thanks g.k.manjunath CHIEF LIBRARIAN INDIRA GANDHI INSTITUTE OF DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH FILM CITY ROAD ( GEN.VAIDYA MARG ) SANTOSH NAGAR GOREGAON ( EAST ) MUMBAI - 400 065 INDIA e-mail : gkm@igidr.ac.in http:// www.igidr.ac.in/lib/library.htm phone 91-22-28490653 ************************************************ On Wed, 3 Dec 2003, Mailing List Manager wrote:

For the q.1, I shall assume following dimensions as the standard one:
1 rack of 6 ft height, 2 ft depth and 3 ft width and is back to back.
Each side will accomodate 6 shelves and thus both will have 12 shelves for storage. Each shelf will accomodate around 30 bks of average size and thus one rack can accomodate 360 books. With the same calculation, it will require 28 shelves to accomodate all the 10000 bk.
Regards.
