****Apologies for cross postings**** IFLA-ALP Workshop on Information Literacy at Punjabi University, Patiala. The Department of Library & Information Science, Punjabi University, Patiala is organizing a 5-day international workshop on Information Literacy from 3-7 October 2005. The theme of the workshop is 'Information Skills for Learning'. This is a follow-up workshop, the first one was held in Colombo (Sri Lanka) in November 2004. The following resource persons have confirmed their participation in this IFLA-ALP and Unesco sponsored workshop: Mr. Gerald Brown, Honorary Ambassador of the International Association of School Librarianship, Canada Prof. Russell Bowden (UK) Honorary IFLA Fellow, Sri Lanka Prof. Philip J Calvert, School of Information Management, University of Wellington, New Zealand. Dr Diljit Singh, Faculty of Computer Science, University of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Ms. Karen Bonanno, Australian School Libraries Association, Australia. Ms. June Wall, Australian School Libraries Association, Australia. Mrs. Pradeepa Wijetunge, Director, NILIS, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka About 30 foreign delegates from South and South East Asian countries are also participating in this workshop. Library and information professionals in India are invited to participate in this workshop. Only a limited number of seats (25-30) are available for Indian delegates. Applications for participation would be considered on first-come-first-served basis. IFLA and Unesco are sponsoring the International resource persons and delegates. Persons having knowledge/experience in the field of information literacy would be given preference. The registration fee for the workshop is as under: Indian delegates (with accommodation): Rs. 5000/- Indian delegates (without accommodation): Rs. 4000/- Registration fee includes food, workshop kit, and study materials. Modest accommodation would be provided on first-come-first-served basis in the university. In case a an intending participant requires star accommodation in a hotel, he would have to pay for it from his own sources. We would provide the interested persons with list of hotel addresses/phone numbers. Patiala is situated about 250 km north of Delhi and is well connected with rail and road. The nearest airport is Chandigarh (60 km). Punjabi University, the venue of the workshop, is situated 20 km off Rajpura. Rajpura is situated about 30 km from Ambala Cantt. on the Delhi- Amritsar National Highway no.1. The climate generally remains pleasant during first week of October and the temperature during these days remains between 30 degrees celcius (maximum) and 20 degrees celcius (minimum).
